Maz treasures

As one of the lucky ones who attended the seventh game of the 1960 World Series, who attended the airing of the long-lost Bing Crosby recording of the game 50 years later and whose current office at Pitt overlooks the Forbes Field wall, I have to express sadness at the thought that Bill Mazeroski's bat, shirt and cleats might ever leave Pittsburgh ("Mazeroski to Sell '60 Collectibles," Sept. 19).

I certainly don't criticize him for putting them up for sale, but I would urge those with the resources -- museums, institutions and wealthy individuals to do their best to find a way to buy these treasures and put them on permanent display in the place that would most appreciate having them. If I had the money, I'd buy them and donate them to the Heinz History Museum in a heartbeat.
