Now that the threat of war against Syria has been averted and a resolution to the crisis seems to be within reach, it is curious that the general media continue to criticize President Barack Obama. One can only speculate why those who eagerly supported war based on flimsy misinformation involving the simple possession of chemical weapons find reasons to criticize the threat of force against substantive proof of the actual use of chemical weapons.
Anyone can shoot from the hip or acquiesce under pressure. However, deliberation and analysis are consistently more successful at resolving conflict than politics. Mr. Obama's actions, however interpreted, proved effective. An earlier commander in chief expressed it well, "Walk softly and carry a big stick."
