It saddened my heart to read the Sept. 8 article "Why Did It Fail?" about the Strip District's wholesale produce terminal.
When I was a young girl, my father and I on Sundays would take the streetcar to the Strip District so he could check the bananas in the freight cars. It was such a thrill for me. My father and two brothers made their livelihood there.
Other cities have the foresight to enlarge their wholesale produce districts while Pittsburgh lets its district die.
Pittsburgh and the Strip go hand in hand. It's a landmark where tourists, not to mention our own citizens, love to explore. Let's hope and pray that other minds will prevail.
