I am the mother of a U.S. Marine, a "dove" liberal Democrat, a worker in a hospital where I witness the horrors of death ... I am many things that would seem to cause my opinion to be, "do not get involved in Syria."
However, one of the most important and true things I know is that if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. There are no good solutions here, only terribly inadequate and imperfect ones. But we should do the best we can to stand up for people who cannot stand up for themselves, to make sure Bashar Assad or any other leader never again uses chemical weapons against innocents. If we do nothing, we are no less guilty of this heinous act than Mr. Assad himself.
