I had the opportunity to attend the annual women's Steelers camp at Saint Vincent College on July 28. All I can say is what a great event for women who not only love the game of football but also are diehard Steelers fans. There were more than 300 women from across the country and Canada between the ages of 18 and I would say 70-plus. (I fall in the over-60 group).
The day was educational, not to mention a lot of fun, from the calisthenics run by one of the current Steelers' trainers, to the drills run by former Steelers players, including Matt Bahr, Craig Wolfley, Edmund Nelson, Yancey Thigpen, Mike Tomczak and Mike Schneck and the autographs from current players Ryan Clark and David DeCastro. Plus, we got to be on the field and watch the Steelers practice.
Thanks to all involved who made this event such a success. I'll be there again next year and hope to make it a mother-daughter event. This is just another example of what a class act the Steelers organization is and how it values its fan base, especially us women. And thanks to Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC for its sponsorship.
