I was visiting relatives in the area and attended the Pittsburgh Blues Festival July 18-20 and had a great time, as did thousands of others. Commendations to the people who lined up such a well-rounded array of talent.
The festival is a benefit for the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, certainly a very good cause. I was disappointed that no one on stage suggested to the crowd that they could do even more to help ease hunger in America by urging their representatives in Congress to renew -- not reduce -- the federal food stamp program. More than 90 percent of lower-income recipients are children, elderly or disabled, surely people whom Americans do not want to see go hungry.
