City council, please, take off your rose-colored glasses and get a clue! ("Residency Measure Will Be on City Ballot" July 24)
Forget about your political agendas and have some insight and concern for the men and women in blue of the City of Pittsburgh.
At the end of their shifts, Pittsburgh police officers should be as far removed from the inner streets of this city as possible. When they leave for work, their lives are on the line every day, never knowing if they will return to their families. The last thing the officers and their families need are a 24/7 customer service mentality from neighbors/friends/relatives and mere acquaintances, let alone political leaders.
Have you considered all the criminals the officers have locked up? What about the safety and security of the police officer and their families? Why not just hand out all local city addresses of all city police officers at the Allegheny County Jail?
City council, if you want 24/7 customer service from officers, I suggest that you consider bringing back the Community Oriented Police Program to handle the city's community public relations issues and concerns after hours.
