There are so many things one could say about the George Zimmerman trial that it boggles the mind. If one were to list the failures that are apparent in this fiasco, one would run out of paper. How then can we convey our outrage over this atrocity?
While Mr. Zimmerman is the predominant villain in this sordid affair, he is by no means the only one. The state of Florida and every actor who had a hand in implementing this "lawless" law, referred to as "stand your ground," is responsible for the death of Trayvon Martin.
Nothing can be done to bring Trayvon back to his grieving family, but we can let Florida and the responsible legislators know how we feel. I, for one, choose to avoid the state of Florida, whether for vacationing or any other endeavor, while this "lawless" law stands.
Fear that clouds
As a white man living in America today, I will never be able to fully appreciate the black community's response to the George Zimmerman acquittal. However, as a human being, I find it incredible that there should be no consequence to this action.
It would appear that the law allowed Mr. Zimmerman to use deadly force to protect himself, but did not allow the unarmed victim to protect himself. This seems to be an unequal balance of definition.
It is as big an imbalance as profiling someone because of race, religion, weight or any other attribute that clouds us from seeing the whole person. So when a young black man was in that neighborhood at that time, the prevailing attitude was that it was all right for him to be targeted. The fear that drives this type of behavior was re-enforced after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
When will we stop living in fear, accept human beings as human beings and move toward real equality?

Genesis of tragedy
After being inundated with the indignation of Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and others over the tragic death of Trayvon Martin, I suggest that they look at who really is responsible for this tragedy. Those really responsible are the young men who were robbing the homes of the people in that area requiring a crime watch in the first place.
None of this would have happened without their actions. Is anyone trying to find those individuals? Is anyone speaking out about this? Put the blame where it belongs.
