I was born and raised in Pittsburgh and relocated back to the area after serving in the United States Air Force for 23 years. I had options after my retirement to stay in the government at several locations across the country. I chose to relocate my family to this great city. I have worked in health care my entire adult life and there was no better organization in this location than UPMC.
I was fortunate to gain a position at UPMC and have been serving here for the past two years. I use the word serving because this organization is similar to the Air Force; it has employees with the utmost integrity who are willing to put the patient first and provide top-notch health care. Loyalty is earned and UPMC has earned mine.
I believe that this organization is just in its stance with Highmark. UPMC has never shied away from competition and is ready for the challenge. No one understands the importance of fighting for your fellow "brothers in arms" more than I do, especially when the cause is just.
Our hospitals are among the best in the country because of the people who work in them. This organization is doing everything it can to make sure its employees, the patients and the Pittsburgh economy are strong, healthy and sustainable for many years to come.
