Regarding the June 10 letter "Mixing the Sexes in the Military Was a Recipe for Misconduct": Being homesick and lonely is not an excuse for a soldier to assault another. I realize the letter writer claims to be blaming Congress for this problem, because it allowed women to join the military (how inconsiderate of Congress!), but he's really just blaming women.
As citizens of this country, we have every right to help protect it and we have every right not to be harmed by our supposed military brothers while doing it.
People who think like this are the reason men think it's OK to rape girls who are drunk or dressed provocatively or if they're feeling lonely or desperate. This is not a women vs. men thing. This is a "you can't hurt your colleagues just because you're sexually deprived" thing. If there were no women in the military these violent, misogynistic men would just find a female somewhere to assault. Oh, that's right ... that already happens too.
