Unless you expect to be killed by arrows, be beheaded, have your eyes torn out or face death or disfigurement by other means, you should remain silent before attacks on the Roman Catholic Church, claims professor Richard Connerney ("Zubik Overreacted"). In his May 13 letter, Mr. Connerney, a self-identified Catholic, criticizes Bishop David Zubik for speaking out against a student who mocked the church by parading half-naked with a papal crown on her head and a cross shaved into her crotch.
Nearly 2,000 years ago, a man was murdered on a real cross for the salvation of us all. Mr. Connerney might want to reflect on that act before he once again sanctions blasphemy and unwarranted criticism of a bishop of our mutual religion.
