I found the May 2 story "5-Year-Old Kills Sister, 2, with Rifle Received as a Gift" to be very disturbing. Maybe 5-year-olds are different in Kentucky, where this tragedy took place, but I have never known a 5-year-old child who was mature and responsible enough to own and have unsupervised access to a gun, even if it is a Crickett or Chipmunk "kiddie rifle" manufactured especially for children.
According to the story, the family didn't realize that a bullet had been left in it. I have a question: How difficult is it for a responsible adult who is knowledgeable about guns to find out if there is a bullet in a gun? What a senseless, needless tragedy!
