U.S. Sens. Pat Toomey and Joe Manchin, thank you for restoring the belief that the primary concern of elected officials is doing the will of the people. Your bipartisan work on crafting the recent gun control legislation was a true testament to doing the right thing. A sincere and heartfelt thank-you for that.
Shame on those senators who voted against this legislation, which was a clear mandate by the people. It's sad to think that the wish of the people is more often than not overshadowed by special interest groups such as, in this case, the National Rifle Association.
To top it off, the bill in essence only required background checks. Heck, these are required for employment! Should we not do the same for weapons? If you have nothing to hide, why not? I hope and pray the constituents in those states whose senators voted "no" remember this next time they go to the polls and vote them right out of office! If actions like this do not support term limits, I don't know what does!
