Regarding "Protect Pennsylvania Pensions: The State Shouldn't Move to 401(k)-type Benefits for New Employees" (April 18): Is Diane Oakley's article about protecting Pennsylvania's pensions another way of insulating our government employees from the real world in which the rest of us live? She may be surprised by the large number of college-educated unemployed or underemployed people who would love to have an opportunity to work at one of these "low paying" government jobs and would be more than willing to provide "reliable public services."

Private America is a world of the 401(k)-type pension, health care premium share and often substandard salaries. Joining the rest of us may help state employees better administer the public services they are paid to deliver.
