In his April 22 Perspectives column "The Second Wave," David Brooks states, "Liberals are furious, but the gun issue will not significantly damage the Republican Party." Sure liberals are furious and for good reason, but I believe it will indeed damage the Republicans.
Between now and the November 2014 elections it seems very likely that another massacre will occur with the use of an assault-type weapon and a large ammo clip. Senators who voted against gun regulation and their allies could then be accused of complicity in that crime.
Sure it may be a bit unfair, but compared with the lies and misinformation perpetrated by the National Rifle Association and its ilk, it is the height of responsible statesmanship.
And it will work.
