I am writing concerning state Rep. Tony DeLuca's push to make Pennsylvania the 36th state to allow early voting in order to increase voter turnout ("Democratic Legislators Push for Early-Voting Measure," April 17).
It appears to be going nowhere in the Republican-controlled House. Steve Miskin, a spokesman for House Republicans, had the unmitigated gall to say, "We want to protect the voting process. Our goal is to protect the integrity of the vote, not open it up for abuse."
Is this the same protection of the voting system that Gov. Tom Corbett and the Republican-controlled Legislature, in the person of Rep. Mike Turzai, had in mind when Mr. Turzai stated that Pennsylvania had been delivered to Mitt Romney?
Does this commonwealth have to become the laughingstock of the nation again?
