In reference to your March 6 editorial "Misleading Headline: How Rothfus, Murphy Voted on Domestic Violence": Tim Murphy is my representative in the 18th District. In reading his recent newsletter, it was evident to me that he was trying to mislead people into thinking that he had voted in favor of the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, when he had not.
I have found Rep. Murphy to be deliberately unclear about his stands on certain issues. I am pleased to see that the congressman has convened an exploratory hearing in Congress concerning mental illness in the wake of the murders of 20 6- and 7-year-olds and six adults at a school in Newtown, Conn. However, here again he dances around the issue of gun control as it pertains to mass murders in this country.
I have repeatedly asked Mr. Murphy the following question: "What is your position on closing the gun-show loophole, which would make it more difficult for the mentally ill to get weapons?" He has replied more than once that I "should receive a written response to my question." I am still awaiting his answer.
