The simple solution to the eternal Squirrel Hill Tunnel backup is to remove the drivers who will not operate their vehicles at the mandated speed through the tunnels. That's the entire problem in a nutshell. One person slows down and then we have "tunnel creep" for several hours.
The state police should ticket the offending driver until his or her license is suspended or, better, revoked. The tunnel problem is slow, creeping drivers -- it has always been slow, creeping drivers. No costly studies needed, no costly enhancements needed, just a little common sense will solve the tunnel backup problem.
All the enhancements now being performed on the tunnels are a monumental waste of time and money! Tunnel enhancements will not stop the creeping drivers who suffer from "Chicken Little syndrome."
Also, may I add, the suggestion of paying $2 per day for a bypass is absolute insanity! That's just another disguised tax.
