After almost 42 years as a registered voter, I am appalled at the state of politics from the local level all the way up to and including the federal level. It seems to me that the two major parties, the Democrats and Republicans, are devoted to only one purpose: their own parties.
What has happened to "What's good for the people?" There seems to be only one purpose in passing, enacting or proposing programs or bills: "Which party will get the credit?"
I'm at the point that on Election Day, I will, as I have done in the past, use the write-in slot and vote for myself and deny the "don't care" parties my vote. Some people may think I'm wasting my vote, but if others across the country do as I will on Nov. 6, maybe the Democrats and Republicans will wake up.
This is supposed to be a government of the people, by the people and for the people, but lately it's been a government of the parties, by the parties and for the parties.

In good hands
Kudos to Evelyn Benzo on her letter "The 99 Percent" (Sept. 25). It is hard to listen to the constant criticism of the job our president has done in the past four years. It has been a slow road to recovery. We are not back to where we were before the destructive eight years of the Bush administration, but we have made progress and certainly are in better shape than Europe because of the steps the present administration has taken to move us forward.
It is encouraging to know that Obamacare is opening the door toward health care for all. We look forward to a future where no one has to worry that they will go bankrupt to get necessary health care and treatments. It's a future in which our health comes before the bottom line of an insurance company.
Ms. Benzo, you said it elegantly: We, the 99 percent, are in the best hands and hope to remain so.
Time is short
Why would a "president" do things that are the exact opposite of those that made this country the greatest in history? Is he stupid? Or is he doing it on purpose? And if he's doing it on purpose, is the goal to destroy freedom and replace it with subjugation?
We better find out soon, because time is running out and the stakes are enormous.
