Wake up, America. The November general election is not about gun control, not about gay rights, not about education, not about entitlements. It's not about a lot of things. What it is about is the economic survival of our country and our citizens. Until the deficit is reduced, and the budget balanced, we will continue on a path to disaster that will result in the loss of life as we have known it since our country was formed.
The next president will have the obligation to reverse the trends that got us into this predicament and must have the strength to lead us in an honest manner, by telling us the sacrifices that we must face.
We must reform the tax code and raise taxes on the entire society, or disaster will follow. It is fashionable to want to tax the rich to solve our problem, but this is only a very small part of the solution. Taxes must be raised at all levels, personal and corporate. If nothing is done, we, as citizens, will have our financial reserves confiscated through inflation, which is a more onerous way of solving the problem.
Our next president must be a great leader who can work with and lead Congress to start the process of renewal. Our next president must look us in the eye and tell us that we are in for difficult times for years to come, and we must all do our share. We must hold our elected officials accountable and require them to say no to their favorite spending projects that might get them re-elected but will perpetuate the deficits that plague us now.
We must elect statesmen, not politicians.
