Obermayer Rebmann Maxwell & Hippel LLP co-partner Bruce C. Fox has been named president of the University of Pittsburgh Law Alumni Association. His term runs through 2013.

Mr. Fox, co-partner-in-charge in the firm's Pittsburgh office, concentrates his practice in complex litigation in federal court, including class action, employment, environmental, civil rights, intellectual property and commercial litigation matters. He received his law degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, where he served on the Law Review as Notes and Comments Editor.


Dean A. Calland, a founding shareholder of Babst Calland in Pittsburgh, was named as a 2012 International Who's Who Legal choice in the environment practice area, his third straight year being on the list. Mr. Calland's international practice consists primarily of complex acquisitions and divestitures for multi-national chemical and manufacturing clients.


Burns White hired associates Lindsay S. Kift and Nathan J. Ward to its Pittsburgh office. Ms. Kift is an associate of the workers' compensation group, where she defends employers and insurance companies against claims. Prior to joining the firm, she served as a senior legal and compliance analyst for a certified public accounting and business consulting firm in Boston. Ms. Kift received a J.D. from New England School of Law.

Mr. Ward, a Medicare compliance group associate, focuses on the resolution of Medicare issues that arise in the settlement of workers' compensation and general liability claims. While attending Duquesne University School of Law, he clerked for the Burns White's workers' compensation group.


McGuireWoods LLP announced that it has received a first-tier ranking in the 2013 edition of U.S. News' Best Lawyers "Best Law Firms" listing. The ranking was determined through the firm's overall evaluation, based on client feedback, peer review and law firm survey responses.


Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC said that shareholders Kevin P. Lucas and Gretchen L. Jankowski were named co-chairs of the firm's Pittsburgh litigation practice, an announcement that comes just a few months after the addition of seven Manion McDonough & Lucas (MML) lawyers.

Mr. Lucas, one of the region's premier business litigators and a founder of MML, has devoted his career to the prosecution and defense of the broad and varied range of complex claims affecting business. He received his J.D. from the University of Michigan.

Ms. Jankowski is a trial lawyer who has litigated a wide variety of business disputes. Her practice areas span from franchise law to disputes ranging from antitrust and unfair trade secrets to intellectual property and corporate governance. She received her J.D. from the University of Baltimore.


Carol A. Behers, a principal in the family law firm of Raphael Ramsden & Behers, P.C., was awarded a 2012 Woman of Distinction Award from the Duquesne University Women's Advisory Board in November.


Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, P.C. has been named "Law Firm of the Year" in both the labor and employment litigation and the employment law (management) categories in the 2013 edition of U.S. News' Best Lawyers "Best Law Firms" list.

This is the second time that the firm has been named "Law Firm of the Year" in the labor and employment litigation category.

In the Pittsburgh region, Ogletree Deakins earned "first-tier" rankings in three categories: employment law (management); labor law (management); and labor and employment litigation.

Nationally, the firm is recognized with four first-tier rankings: employee benefits (ERISA) law; employment law (management); labor law (management); and labor and employment litigation.
