Lake Wilhelm (Mercer County): A combination of hot weather and poor fishing stifled activity, but anglers who had the lake mostly to themselves reported catching bass in the 15- to 18-inch range and nice-size crappies. Some reported losing what they believed were legal-size muskies.
Allegheny River (Venango County): Boating advisory: A big log was lodged perpendicular to the flow on the eastern shore above the 3rd Street Launch at Franklin. Smallmouths were taking jigs and fluke baits.

Lake Arthur, Butlet County:
The heat of recent weeks pushed fish down and kept many anglers off the water. Nevertheless, lots of bass were caught and walleyes were picked off submerged road beds. The Post-Gazette will host a Family Fishing Tent during the Regatta at Lake Arthur Aug. 4-5.
Allegheny River (Allegheny County): Too hot for fish and anglers. Bass action slowed, but some nice channel cats were caught.

Cross Creek Lake (Washington County): Overall fishing slowed, but Mike Zavallo of Bentleyville reported catching a 28-inch walleye weighing just under 7 pounds, and had another one on.
