Don't hold your breath waiting for a published list detailing how many trout are going into which Pennsylvania waters. Fish and Boat Commission spokesman Dan Tredinnick says they're no longer releasing that information.
"Some anglers would follow the stocking trucks or stake out a place at a pool where they put a lot of fish," he said. "I think unintentionally we encouraged that way of thinking by putting out the list."
Here's what the Fish Commission is willing to say: In 2006, they stocked 4 million trout weighing a total of 1.9 million pounds. This year, they're stocking the same poundage, but the trout will be fewer in number, 3.4 million. Some of the fish were raised in North Carolina. Each trout will be 30 percent heavier and several inches larger than those stocked last year.
Stocking schedules are listed by county, with interactive and printable maps including approved trout waters, boat access sites, etc., at www.fish.state.pa.us.
