The College of William & Mary's Elaina Balouris was an All-American in both cross country and track last year. She seems ready for more glory this year.
Balouris, a former standout distance runner at Hampton High School, won the Panorama Farms Invitational at the University of Virginia last Saturday with a course record of 16 minutes, 31.8 seconds.
Balouris, a senior, finished 13th at the NCAA cross country championships last fall and also was 10th in the NCAA 10,000-meter race this past spring in track. This fall, she has helped William & Mary to a No. 14 ranking in the country.
• The John Carroll University football team (3-0) broke into the Top 25 in NCAA Division III this week for the first time since 2007. John Carroll has the top scoring defense in Division III and one of the defensive leaders is junior defensive back Brody Zangaro, a North Hills graduate who leads the team in interceptions with two and is fourth in tackles with 17. John Carroll quarterback Mark Myers is a transfer from Pitt and is sixth in the country in passing yardage per game at 334.3 yards.
• Kaleb Ramsey, a former standout lineman at Laurel Highlands, had a sack for Boston College in Saturday's 48-34 loss against Florida State. Ramsey, a senior defensive lineman, has 13 tackles so far for the Eagles (2-2).
