The Obama Academy boys' volleyball team won its second City League title in a row Wednesday at Brashear.
"This title means a lot because of how inexperienced this team was coming into the season," Obama Academy coach Pete Vitti said. "We had only two returning varsity players back from last year's team."
Obama was seeded first in the four-team, double-elimination tournament. Obama faced Allderdice in the winners' bracket final and recorded a 25-17, 25-16 victory after easily defeating Perry in the semifinals.
Allderdice rebounded with a narrow win against Carrick in the consolation bracket to earn a rematch with Obama in the championship round. But Allderdice had to beat Obama twice to claim the City League crown.
A second match wasn't needed, as Obama posted a 25-22, 25-15 win to claim the title. Ray Casio, a senior middle blocker, had five solo blocks in the final set for Obama.
Tobias Raether, a senior opposite, led Obama with 16 kills. Jordan Pollard, a senior outside hitter, contributed 13 kills.
It's the eighth consecutive City League title for Vitti, who won six in a row at Schenley before the school closed.
Obama qualifies for the PIAA Class AA bracket, while Allderdice qualifies in Class AAA. The PIAA tournament begins May 29.
