Pennsylvania Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic stars are well-decorated

A four-time state champ, two three-time PIAA champs, four two-time PIAA champs and a two-time national prep champion headline the Pennsylvania all-star team for the Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic Sunday.

Camp Hill Trinity's Ryan Diehl (174-5) is the four-time champ. Diehl won two West Virginia titles, then moved to Camp Hill and claimed PIAA Class AA titles, the last coming at 126 pounds.

Canon-McMillan's Cody Wiercioch (167-5) and Pen Argyl's Michael Racciato (186-8) are the three-time PIAA champs. Wiercioch is a four-time PIAA finalist and three-time champ, the last two in Class AAA at 170. Racciato is a three-time Class AA champ, the last at 145.

"It's a great way to end my high school career," Wiercioch said. "I'm really looking forward to it."

The two-time PIAA champs are Bethlehem Catholic's Darian Cruz (153-8) at 120, Canon-McMillan's Connor Schram (159-11) at 126, Benton's Zain Retherford (130-3) at 138 and Milton's Ryan Solomon (142-14) at 220.

"I'm pumped," Schram said. "I get to wrestle the No. 1 kid in the country. I'm going to let it rip and see what happens. It will be a lot of fun."

Schram is referring to Joey Dance (186-14), a four-time Virginia champion from Christiansburg who is ranked No. 1 in the country at 126 pounds by Amateur Wrestling News.

Retherford is ranked No. 1 in the country at 138.

"One of my goals coming into my senior year was to be picked for the Classic," said Retherford. "I've never been to the Classic before, but I've heard a lot about it. I'm really looking forward to it."

The two-time National Prep School champion is Eric Morris of Wyoming Seminary.

The Pennsylvania team has won 22 state titles total and two national titles. The 13 entries have a combined career record of 2,016-187.

Burrell's Dakota DesLauriers (152-14) headlines the WPIAL all-stars. DesLauriers is a three-time WPIAL champion who claimed the PIAA Class AA title at 182. The WPIAL squad also features two two-time PIAA finalists: Kiski Area's Matt McCutcheon (158-14) at 195 and Keystone Oaks' Nick Zanetta (129-42).

The United States all-star team will face Pennsylvania's all-star team in the feature match at 6 p.m. The WPIAL all-stars will face the Virginia all-stars in the preliminary match at 4 p.m.
