The North American Road Racing Association makes its first stop at Pittsburgh International Race Complex in Wampum today through Sunday.

The sanction, formed in 2011, continues to expand into new markets and is now lead by general manager Aaron Hmel of Cranberry Township.

Hmel is excited about the group's inaugural race in Western Pennsylvania.

"The length of Pittsburgh International Race Complex's North Track is going to lead to pretty tight wheel-to-wheel racing in the different classes because you have more than one class out on the track at the same time," Hmel said. "You'll have little pockets of races within the race.

NARRA's top group, USGTC is rapidly becoming the largest high performance GT racing series in the country. The paddock area is like a car show where fans can walk up and see cars ranging from BMW's, Chevrolet Corvette's, Ferrari's, Ford Mustang's, Porsche's and Dodge SRT Vipers.

The USGTC is made up of four classes based on horsepower to weight ratio, and when unleashed on the track at the same time, it makes for exciting racing.

Another group of wild creations will be in the Whelen US Time Trial Championship Series where the fastest lap wins. This class pits American muscle up against European thoroughbreds and turbo-charged imports.

Hmel said all competitors won't compete in every event during the season, but the series is very competitive.

"This is a working man's series," Hmel said. "Many of these drivers own and run businesses and getting time off isn't always possible."

Red Miley Rumble

The 7th Annual Red Miley Rumble pays tribute to the former promoter of Pittsburgh's PA Motor Speedway and owner of Motordrome Speedway who passed away May 3, 2007, at the age of 53.

Red's nephew, Jared Miley, is the defending champion of the 53-lap event for the Super Late Models, which will be sanctioned by the ULMS at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Monster Half-Mile near Imperial.

An outpouring of support from Red's friends and former business associates has raised the total late model purse by about $4,000.

Besides the ULMS Late Models traveling south to take on PPMS regulars, many competitors from outside the region are expected.

Veteran late model competitor Lynn Geisler has two victories in 2013 and his next win will be his 75 victory at PPMS.

"Last year we lead the race until we blew the motor, maybe it will happen this year, it would be nice." Geisler said.

Matt Miley, Red's youngest brother, said, "It's good to see drivers like Lynn Geisler, Ben Miley and Ed Ferree still winning races and being competitive, something Red would have enjoyed."

Something else he enjoyed was a show, so the 410 Sprint Cars have been added to the 'Rumble' along with Rush Late Models, Late Model Sportsmen, Hobby Stocks and Young Guns. It starts at 7 p.m.
