Lernerville Speedway returns to action today with a special event featuring the Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series and the RUSH Dirt Late Model Series.
The BOSS series is an Ohio-based regional sprint-car group that competes on area tracks, providing fans with wheel-to-wheel action without the top wing.
Johnny Beaber, a familiar face to fans of Lernerville, is scheduled to return to the track where many of his victories took place.
Johnny's son, Tony, won the most recent BOSS event at Pittsburgh's PA Motor Speedway in dramatic fashion after hitting the first-turn wall in the closing laps of the feature.
While Tony Beaber attempts to add a wingless sprint-car win to the family's legacy at Lernerville, Brandon Spithaler and Brandon Matus also will be looking to put their names in the record books.
Additionally, drivers of the RUSH Dirt Late Model Series will remove their roofs in support of Breast Cancer Awareness.
NHRA stars in Ohio
The National Hot Rod Association Mello Yello Drag Racing Series visits Summit Motorsports Park Thursday through Sunday in Norwalk, Ohio, making it the closest NHRA event to Pittsburgh and the best opportunity to see the fastest drag racers on the planet.
The raceway is celebrating 50 years in existence on the grounds that have become arguably one of the best drag-racing facilities anywhere, rivaling the amenities of many big-league venues with personality, outstanding customer service and the only place where you can get a pound of hand-packed ice cream for a dollar.
All Stars return to MRP
The UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions returns to Mercer Raceway Park Saturday, featuring the top three drivers in points who happen to be veterans of the Western Pennsylvania track.
Dale Blaney holds the top spot on the traveling circuit, 32 points ahead of Tim Shaffer and 74 ahead of Pittsburgh native Danny Holtgraver. The trio will be racing for the $5,000 first-place prize.
MRP has four divisions in action with racing starting at 7 p.m.
