Briefs: Penn State football lands a commitment

Cornerback Troy Vincent Jr. committed to Penn State, according to multiple recruiting services. Vincent, 5-10, 181 pounds, is rated by Rivals as the No. 22 cornerback in the country and had offers from schools such as Michigan, Michigan State and Georgia Tech. He is the son of Troy Vincent, who played cornerback for the Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills among other teams. Vincent Jr. is Penn State's 12th commitment for 2014.

High schools

Hempfield hired Mark Marino to replace Jim Nesser as its boys basketball coach. Marino, 34, has been an assistant basketball coach at NCAA Division III Lycoming College in Williamsport the past five years. Nesser's contract was not renewed after compiling a 58-32 record the past four seasons.

Nick Lackovich was hired as the boys basketball coach at Aliquippa. He is a 1979 Aliquippa graduate and was an assistant coach at Aliquippa and most recently Beaver Falls.

Ryan Krull, the offensive coordinator the past two seasons at Carmichaels, was hired as the Mighty Mikes new head football coach. Krull replaces John Menhall, who resigned in May after going 21-18 in four seasons.
