Collections of household chemicals will be held today at Cranberry Mall in Venango County and next Saturday at the Second Avenue Plaza Lot in Downtown Pittsburgh.

Residents can drop off cleaners, automotive fluids, paints, car batteries, pesticides and pool chemicals at the events sponsored by the Pennsylvania Resources Council and its partners. A $2 fee per gallon will be charged, cash only.

Both collections will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cranberry Mall is on Route 322. Information: 1-814-432-9684. The Second Avenue Plaza Lot is under the 10th Street Bridge, east of the Allegheny County Jail. Information: 412-488-7452.

Verandah tour of Scottdale

The Scottdale Verandah Tour on July 28 will offer a glimpse of what life was like on a Sunday afternoon in 1913.

From 1 to 4 p.m., participants can tour five porches in historic Scottdale, Westmoreland County, and taste hard tack, iced tea and other period treats. Period music will be performed and the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg will be celebrated.

Tickets are $5 each or two for $8 and are available at Collections by Marty, 143 Pittsburgh St., 15683, and the Scottdale Historical Society, 527 N. Chestnut St., 15683, on the day of the event. Information: 724-619-1874.
