Tracy Kane, author of the "Fairy Houses" series of books and videos, will discuss and demonstrate how to build fairy gardens from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Mary Roberts Rinehart Nature Park, adjacent to Osborne Elementary School, 1414 Beaver St. Glen Osborne (15143). The Pennsylvania Resources Council will collect computers, televisions and other hard-to-recycle items 9 a.m.-1 p.m. today at the Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills parking lot in Tarentum.
There is no charge for computers, televisions, cell phones, printer toner cartridges, compact fluorescent lights, EPS packaging foam (marked No. 6) and polystyrene, which is being collected for the first time. For a fee, individuals can drop off paper for shredding, alkaline batteries, fluorescent tubes, specialty lights and small appliances containing Freon. A DEA "Drug Take Back Day" will be held 10 a.m.-2 p.m. next Saturday at many municipal buildings and police departments for individuals to drop off unwanted and expired prescription and over-the-counter medications at no cost.
Household Chemical Collections, in which individuals can drop off automotive fluids, household cleaners, pesticides, paints and other household chemicals for a fee of $2 per gallon, will be held 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on the following dates:
• May 4 at North Park Swimming Pool parking lot.
• May 18 in Cambria County.
• July 20 in Venango County.
• July 27 and Sept. 21 in Allegheny County.
• Oct. 12 in Beaver County.
"ReuseFest, " in which individuals can drop off items for reuse including medical equipment, building materials, clothing and furniture, will be held Aug. 3 in the parking lot of Goodwill Workforce Development Center, 118 52nd St., Lawrenceville.

Shaler plant sale
Members of the Shaler Garden Club will host a plant sale from 9 a.m. to noon May 4 at Kiwanis Park, Mt. Royal Boulevard and Wetzel Road. Perennials, annuals, vegetables and hanging baskets will be offered for sale. The sale will take place rain or shine.
