After six years of honoring great home improvements, judges for the PG Renovation Inspiration Contest have seen hundreds of successful projects, but have never given one away.
Yet every year we receive small envelopes bearing filled-out entry forms, some with a sentence or two on what parts of the house the entrants want to update/improve. Sorry, folks, this isn't a sweepstakes. There's no drawing of entries or luck involved. This contest is about hard work and great ideas on making older houses functional.
Homeowners and contractors send in or download photos of finished projects and essays describing how they did it. This year's entry deadline is Jan. 21. Enter online at http://biz.post-gazette.com/RenovationContest/default.aspx or by filling out the form on Page C-2. Don't forget to include photos marked "before" and "after" and the 200-word essay.
Prizes include a feature story about the winners in the Post-Gazette and a free Design Consult by Design Center Pittsburgh, the contest's co-sponsor. The favorite prize is a pair of tickets to every house tour in the city in 2013. Winners say they love seeing neighborhoods they never knew and meeting fellow old house lovers.
So get to work on those entries. You deserve to be in the spotlight.
