Garden Notes: Bonsai society's annual spring show opens

Pittsburgh Bonsai Society's 22nd annual Spring Show will be held today and tomorrow at Phipps Garden Center (formerly The Pittsburgh Civic Garden Center) at Fifth and Shady avenues, Oakland. The show runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and admission is free.

Plants and religion

The Rodef Shalom Biblical Botanical Garden at 4905 Fifth Ave., Oakland, will feature the exhibit "Botanical Symbols in World Religion -- Ancient and Modern" as part of its biblical garden. The display will show how plants figure in Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism and Confucianism.

The garden is open through Sept. 15 each year. Hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays; 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays and noon to 1 p.m. Saturdays. There is no admission charge and parking is available.

Herb Faire

The Dillweed Bed & Breakfast and the Indiana County Herb Study Group will sponsor the "Pick-A-Dilly Herb Faire" 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today.

Local growers will be selling a variety of herbs, plants, perennials and hanging baskets. Artisans and vendors will feature a selection of gardening and outdoor wares. The Indiana County Herb Study Group will be on hand to provide information on herbs and herb gardening. The Dillweed is on Route 403 North in Dilltown, Indiana County, adjacent to The Ghost Town Trail. Admission is free. Information: 814-446-6465.
