Entering this season, McGuffey's boys soccer team had never won a WPIAL playoff game.
Tyler Harris helped the Highlanders change that.
Harris scored two first-half goals to help McGuffey (14-4-1) beat defending champion Quaker Valley (11-5-2), 2-1, Monday in the WPIAL Class AA first round at Mt. Lebanon.
Quaker Valley got its lone goal from Matt Delie.

n Alex Caro scored the winning penalty kick in a shootout to give Deer Lakes (12-2-3) a 1-0 win against Burrell (10-6-2) at Fox Chapel. The Lancers won the shootout, 5-4. Austin Barneycastle had the shutout win.
n David Zimmerman scored in the second half to give 12th-seeded Indiana (15-3-1) a 1-0 win against fifth-seeded Blackhawk (15-3-1) at Seneca Valley.
n Brian Coyne scored on a penalty kick and goaltender Alex Gedrys had a clean sheet in a 1-0 win for No. 3 South Fayette (15-2-2) at home against Mars (12-6).
n Drew DeBerry scored two second-half goals, the final one coming on a header with 1:39 remaining, to give Laurel Highlands (15-3) a 2-1 home victory against West Mifflin (8-8-1).
Class AAA boys
n Matt O'Donnell scored on a shot from 30 yards with 25 minutes remaining to lift fourth-seeded Central Catholic (14-3-1) to a 1-0 victory against Ringgold (12-5-2) at North Allegheny.
n Defending WPIAL champion Canon-McMillan (15-2-2) got two goals each from Nick Sodini and Alex Ablak in a 4-0 victory against host Norwin (11-7-1).
Class A boys
n David Rivetti scored two first-half goals to lead third-seeded Vincentian (14-2-3) to a 2-1 victory against South Allegheny (11-6-2) at South Fayette.
Class A girls
n Frannie Crouse scored six goals and Malea Faben had a hat trick to lead No. 1 Greensburg Central Catholic (15-1) to a 10-1 victory against Mohawk (10-10).
n Canon-McMillan's Lauren Waller shot a 1-over 73 to lead the PIAA Class AAA championship by one shot after the first round at Heritage Hills Golf Resort and Conference Center.
n Central Valley's Macky Fouse shot a 3-over 75 to lead by three shots after the first round of the PIAA Class AA championship.
n Upper St. Clair's Grant Engel shot a 2-over 73 and is in fourth place, two shots back of the lead, after the first round of the PIAA Class AAA championship.
n Burgettstown's Owen Miller shot a 1-over 73 and sits in fourth place, four shots back, after the first round of the PIAA Class AA championship.
n The Jeannette school board voted, 5-4, to have the football team remain in Class AA for the next two years. Jeannette's enrollment would let the team be in Class A, but teams can play "up" if they choose. Jeannette coach Roy Hall told the board he was in favor of dropping to Class A.
