A guide to 2013 high school musicals in Pittsburgh

Following is a list of high school musicals for 2013, plus information on the special events surrounding these annual rites of spring.

Special events

• The 17th annual Westmoreland Night of the Stars is at 6:45 p.m. May 1 in the Palace Theatre, Greensburg; 15 Westmoreland County high schools are entered (denoted with a +).

• The 19th annual Henry Mancini Awards for Butler, Lawrence and Beaver counties is at 7 p.m. May 15 in Metheny Fieldhouse, Geneva College, Beaver Falls; 14 schools entered (denoted with a @), including Lincoln High School in Ellwood City, which performed "Les Miserables" last fall.

• The 23rd annual Gene Kelly Awards for Allegheny County high schools is at 7:30 p.m. May 25 in the Benedum Center, Downtown; 29 schools entered (denoted with a ), including Shady Side Academy, which performed "West Side Story" earlier this year.

• The male and female lead-actor winners at the Kelly and Mancini awards are eligible for the National High School Musical Theater Awards known as the Jimmys. The fifth annual week of workshops, performances and awards ceremony is June 26 through July 2 in New York.
