WPIAL Class A Roundup: Beth-Center surges back to outlast Frazier

Frazier jumped out to an early lead, but Beth-Center was able to rally for a 39-28 Tri-County South Conference victory to remain at the top of the standings.

The Bulldogs improved to 7-0 overall and in the conference. The Commodores dropped to 5-2 overall and in the conference.

The turning point came in the second quarter when the Bulldogs recorded a safety after a botched snap on a punt.

On the ensuing kick, Nico Brown returned the punt 59 yards to put Beth-Center ahead for good.


N. Catholic 41, Wilkinsburg 12

P.J. Fulmore rushed for three touchdowns and the host Trojans (7-0, 7-0) scored 28 first-quarter points to rout the Tigers (2-5, 2-5) in Eastern Conference action.

Neshannock 53, OLSH 7

Ernie Burkes threw for 246 yards and rushed for another 133 and scored a total of four touchdowns as the host Lancers (6-1, 6-1) rolled to a Big Seven conference win against the Chargers (3-4, 3-4).

Monessen 52, Mountain Ridge 12

Noah Rullo threw for 162 yards and three touchdowns for the Greyhounds (6-1) in a non-conference win at Mountain Ridge, Md.

Avonworth 39, Springdale 0

The visiting Antelopes (6-1, 5-1) used a stout defense to hold the Dynamos (2-5, 2-4) scoreless in their Eastern Conference win.

Mapletown 38, West Greene 12

Adam Hein led the host Maples (4-3, 3-3) to a Tri-County South Conference win against the Pioneers (1-6, 1-5) with three touchdowns.

Fort Cherry 86, Serra Catholic 19

The visiting Rangers (6-1, 6-1) scored the most points in a WPIAL game since at least 1952 in their Black Hills Conference win.

Leechburg 31, Riverview 22

Alex Kalmar scored a touchdown with 3:07 left and the Blue Devils (2-5, 2-4) scored 13 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to defeat the visiting Raiders (1-6, 1-5) in Eastern Conference action.

Brentwood 35, Carlynton 13

Pat Carr rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns to lead the host Spartans (4-4, 4-3) to a Black Hills Conference win against the Cougars (4-4, 3-4).

Laurel 42, Rochester 0

The Spartans (6-1, 5-1) blanked the host Rams (2-5, 2-4) to stay in the hunt for the Big Seven Conference title.

Char. Houston 17, California 7

The Buccaneers (6-2, 5-2) held the visiting Trojans (3-4, 3-4) to single digits in a Black Hills Conference win.

Apollo-Ridge 46, Northgate 6

The Vikings (5-2, 4-2) scored 32 second-quarter points in their Eastern Conference win against the visiting Flames (1-6, 1-5).

Carmichaels 40, Avella 21

The host Mighty Mikes (6-1, 5-1) broke a third-place tie in the Tri-County South Conference with a win against the Eagles (5-2, 4-2).

Clairton 42, Bishop Canevin 7

The Bears (6-1, 6-1) stayed tied with Fort Cherry and Monessen atop the Black Hills Conference with a win against the visiting Crusaders (2-6, 1-6).

Jeff-Morgan 34, Vincentian 0

The host Rockets (3-4) shut out Vincentian (3-4) in a non-conference tilt.

W. Shamokin 32, S.S. Beaver 14

The Wolves (5-2) cruised to a non-conference win against the visiting Rams (0-7).

Union 27, Shenango 0

The Scotties (3-4, 2-4) cruised to a Big Seven Conference win against visiting Shenango (1-5, 2-5).
