Ian Park has started all five games for the Northwestern University football team.
Park is a 6-foot-4, 300-pound redshirt freshman from Upper St. Clair High School who starts at offensive guard for Northwestern. He has helped the Wildcats develop a strong running game. Northwestern had a 4-0 record and was ranked No. 16 in the country until losing Saturday against Ohio State.
Park was a member of the Fabulous 22 in 2011. His older brother, Alex Park, is a backup quarterback at Dartmouth in the Ivy League. Alex has played in two games for Dartmouth and completed 3 of 4 passes for 31 yards.
• North Allegheny graduate Rob Kugler is the starting center for the Purdue football team. Kugler is a 6-3, 284-pound redshirt sophomore. Kugler's younger brother, Pat, is a freshman offensive lineman at the University of Michigan who likely will redshirt this season.
• The Saint Francis (Pa.) men's soccer team is having one of its best seasons, and one of the team leaders is Nick Kolarac of West Allegheny. Kolarac, a senior midfielder, is tied for eighth in NCAA Division I for goals with seven in 10 games. At one time, Saint Francis was ranked No. 1 in the North Atlantic Region for the first time. Last week, Saint Francis beat Penn State for the first time, 1-0, on a goal by Southmoreland graduate Ryan Byers.
