Jeff Christy played center in the NFL for 10 seasons and made the Pro Bowl three times. But at Freeport High School, he was a standout fullback, linebacker, punter and kicker.
As a senior in 1985, Christy had a tremendous season, scoring 24 touchdowns in the regular season, kicking five field goals and leading the WPIAL in scoring with 192 points. He helped Freeport to a 9-2 record and the WPIAL Class AA semifinals before the Yellowjackets lost against Riverside.
Christy finished his career with a number of school records and rushed for 2,842 career yards. He was an outstanding athlete. He played baseball as a freshman and sophomore at Freeport before he tried track and field. He set a WPIAL Class AA championship meet record in the shot put.
Christy went on to play at Pitt, where he became an offensive lineman. He spent 10 years in the NFL with the Minnesota Vikings and Tampa Bay Buccaneers and won a Super Bowl with the Buccaneers.
Christy's uniform number has been retired at Freeport.
