Three quarterbacks from the WPIAL are among the leaders in passing yardage for NCAA Division I-AA.
• Dillon Buechel, left, a graduate of Montour High School, is a redshirt freshman at Duquesne University and No. 6 in the country at 302 yards per game. He was named the Northeast Conference rookie of the week earlier this season after passing for 309 yards in a 35-24 victory against Albany.
• Eric Kordenbrock, who played at Pine-Richland and is now at senior at Virginia Military Institute, is No. 15 at 272.7 yards per game. Kordenbrock was named the Big South Conference player of the week two weeks ago after completing 23 of 30 passes for 314 yards in a 34-27 victory against Glenville State.
• Former Greensburg Central Catholic QB Trent Hurley, a junior at Delaware, is No. 28 at 239.3 yards a game.
• When he played at McKeesport High School, Ty-Meer Brown was known mostly for his talent as a triple-option quarterback. But Brown has made a name for himself as a defensive back in college. Brown, a junior at the University of Connecticut, is in his second season as a starter. He had eight tackles and one fumble recovery in the Huskies' 32-21 loss against Maryland last Saturday.
