Steel Valley's D'Andre Pickens started his senior year with a bang on Friday, rushing for 214 yards and scoring five touchdowns in the Ironmen's 47-13 Century Conference win against Keystone Oaks at Dormont Stadium.
Pickens found the end zone from 5, 30, 2 and 65-yards out as well as on a 44-yard pass from Connor Stevens.
Duane Murray also broke the 100-yard mark, gaining 148, including a 19-yard touchdown run.
The Ironmen outgained the Golden Eagles, 411 yards to 139.
Beaver Falls 35, Riverside 0
Dan Stratton threw for 150 yards and connected on three first-half touchdown passes to lead the second-ranked Tigers to a 35-0 win against host Riverside in the Midwestern Conference. Damien Rawl finished with 100 yards rushing for the Tigers, including a 5-yard touchdown.
South Fayette 41, McGuffey 14
The top returning passing leader in the WPIAL, Brett Brumbaugh of South Fayette, picked up where he left off last season by completing 17 of 24 passes for 245 yards and three touchdowns to lead the No. 4 Lions to a 41-14 win against host McGuffey in the Century Conference. JJ Walker had two 5-yard touchdown runs for the Lions.
Summit Academy 35, East Allegheny 6
Summit Academy got out to a hot start, scoring 28 first-quarter points on its way to a 35-6 victory against host East Allegheny in the Allegheny Conference. Elijah Harvey rushed for 210 yards and scored on touchdown runs of 32, 63 and 98 yards for the Knights.
Beaver 42, Burgettstown 0
The Beaver Bobcats shut out Burgettstown, 42-0, in non-conference action. Senior quarterback Alex Rouse threw three touchdowns to three receivers, connecting with Javon Alexander, Kresten Wallace and Darius Wise for the scores.
Burrell 46, Brownsville 14
Burrell jumped to a 26-0 lead in the first half and finished with a 46-14 win against Brownsville in non-conference action. The Bucs had four runners find the end zone, led by Ryan Sowol with two touchdowns, Cody Wolfe led the offense, though, with 111 rush yards.
Mount Pleasant 33, Waynesburg 13
Mount Pleasant grabbed a 20-0 lead in the first half and went on to win its Interstate Conference opener 33-13 against Waynesburg. Tyler Mellors, the fifth-leading rusher in WPIAL last year, rushed for 157 yards and three touchdowns for the Vikings. John Glen Davis led the Raiders with 150 rushing yards and one touchdown.
New Brighton 42, Ellwood City 21
New Brighton doubled up host Ellwood City, 42-21, in a Midwestern Conference opener. New Brighton had six players score touchdowns. Lamar Taft scored the lone defensive touchdown, returning a fumble 30 yards. Gabe Greco finished 12 of 15 passing for 209 yards and a touchdown for the Lions.
Kittanning 40, Freeport 14
Kittanning scored the first 40 points before Freeport tacked on two fourth-quarter touchdowns for a 40-14 Wildcats win in the Allegheny Conference. The Wildcats scored all their touchdowns on the ground with three coming from Zane Dudek, two from Braydon Toy and one from Nick Bowers.
Jeannette 49, Southmoreland 21
Terell Canady returned a kick 90 yards for a touchdown that sparked the Jayhawks to a 49-21, Interstate Conference victory against Southmoreland in a game played at California University. Julian Betts completed 7 of 8 passes for 107 yards and had one touchdown passing and rushing.
Quaker Valley 47, South Park 27
Junior quarterback Dane Jackson rushed for 173 yards on 10 carries and also threw a touchdown pass to lead the Quakers to a 47-27 win against South Park in the Century Conference. Jackson scampered for touchdown runs of 13 and 98 yards. Mike McLaughlin completed 13 of 23 passes for 251 yards and three touchdowns for the Eagles.
Yough 42, Charleroi 14
Yough scored 35 first-half point to win its Interstate Conference opener, 42-14, against Charleroi. Tyler Donahue sparked Yough's offense, completing eight of nine passes for 165 yards and two touchdowns. He also returned a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter. Clayton Waldron rushed for 116 yards on 10 carries for the Cougars.
Shady Side Academy 21, Ford City 0
Shady Side Academy's defense was the best in the Allegheny Conference last season, and it was superb in a 21-0 win against host Ford City to open its season. Jarred Brevard paved the way on the offense for Shady Side by scoring two of the Indians' three touchdowns.
Valley 42, Deer Lakes 16
Demetrius Houser rushed for three touchdowns to lead Valley to a 42-16 win against Deer Lakes in the Allegheny Conference opener. Houser finished with 287 yards on 17 carries.
Mohawk 35, Freedom 8
Mohawk won its home and Allegheny Conference opener with a 35-8 victory against Freedom.
