McKeesport lost to Cincinnati Colerain, 14-7, in overtime at Paul Brown Stadium -- home of the Cincinnati Bengals -- last night in the Kirk Herbstreit Varsity Football Series.

Colerain junior quarterback Greg Tabar scored on a 1-yard run on fourth down in overtime to lift the host Cardinals.

McKeesport fumbled on second-and-11 at the Colerain 13 in its possession in overtime. Colerain sophomore defensive back Chris Dukes recovered the fumble, sealing the win for the Cardinals (2-0).

Colerain scored its first touchdown in the opening quarter, while McKeesport (0-1) scored in the second when quarterback Ty-Meer Brown hit Darnell Harding with a 39-yard pass for a touchdown. It was Brown's only pass attempt.

McKeesport's leading rusher was senior Gabe Patterson, who had 62 yards on nine carries.

"We didn't play well at the beginning and that bothered us," McKeesport coach George Smith said. "We got so wrapped up in the magnitude of this game. We have been in state championship games, but this was a lot different. This had a lot more hoopla.

"We weren't ready to play in the first half."
