Fox Chapel nets key win

Fox Chapel won at Mc-Keesport in dramatic fashion a month ago.

The Foxes did it again Friday night at home.

Matt D'Amico made two free throws with two seconds left to give Fox Chapel a 49-48 win in a key Class AAAA Section 2 game.

D'Amico scored a game-high 23 points for the Foxes (11-4, 6-2), who snapped a two-game losing streak. Brian Papich added 14 points.

McKeesport (10-4, 6-2) had won nine games in a row, highlighted by triumph Tuesday against section leader Gateway (10-2, 7-1). Mikell Moore led the Tigers with 12 points.

The Tigers' previous loss came Dec. 14 against Fox Chapel, 55-53, a game in which the Foxes scored the deciding points on a putback with 1.8 seconds left.

Other top boys games

• Robert Bailey scored 26 points and City League No. 2 Westinghouse (8-5, 4-1) rallied from a 13-point halftime deficit to edge host No. 1 Obama Academy (11-2, 4-1) in overtime, 72-69. Obama Academy had won 10 in a row.

• David Urso scored 17 points and Joseph Marchione had 14 in leading host Central Catholic (10-5, 6-2) to a 69-66 overtime win against Franklin Regional (7-8, 2-6) in Class AAAA Section 2.

• Kason Harrell's 20 points helped host Hempfield (11-4, 5-2) defeat Norwin, 56-50, in Class AAAA Section 1. Matt Stewart paced Norwin (8-6, 5-2) with 23 points.

• Marc Vaughan made two free throws with 13 seconds remaining in the second overtime to help visiting Knoch (9-5, 4-3) defeat Freeport (5-7, 2-5), 64-63, in Class AAA Section 1.


• Nick Stotler connected on his fifth 3-pointer of the game at the buzzer to give host Plum (8-7, 4-4) a 37-34 victory against Woodland Hills (4-11, 0-8) in Class AAAA Section 2. Stotler finished with 25 points.

Stars of the night

• Spencer Casson had a triple double (17 points, 15 rebounds and 11 blocked shots) for Class AAA No. 3 Chartiers Valley (13-1, 7-0) in a 100-55 win against visiting Keystone Oaks (6-9, 3-4) in Section 5.

• John Arcuri scored 18 of his 41 points in the fourth quarter for host St. Joseph (7-9, 3-2) in a 78-71 win against Leechburg (6-8, 2-3) in Class A Section 4.
