The Creative Nonfiction Foundation will host a free creative writing workshop for those affected by mental illness on Mondays, 6 to 9:30 p.m., Oct. 21 through Nov. 18 at the University Club of the University of Pittsburgh in Oakland.
Applications for the five weekly workshops must be received by 11:59 p.m., Sept. 15 Sunday. "Writing Away the Stigma: With True Stories Well Told" will provide support for 12 individuals to study free of charge with Lee Gutkind, a writer and the founder and editor of Creative Nonfiction magazine. The workshops will cover the entire writing process, from idea to final product.
Applicants can be any resident of southwestern Pennsylvania with a true story to tell about confronting mental health problems -- their own, or those of a friend, colleague, or relative.
Applicants should send by computer a one-page, single-spaced letter describing why they want to tell their story, and who they want to reach. It should be submitted at creativenonfiction.org.
