Art glass will be the star of the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens Summer Flower Show that opens next Saturday.
The event will showcase glass creations by glass artisans working in and around Pittsburgh. Juxtaposed beside the Chihuly and Frabel glass installations are trailing glass passion flower vines, illuminated stained-glass towers, a partial articulated glass woolly mammoth skeleton, Queen Anne's lace-inspired glass flowers and abstract glass birds, water lilies and reeds. Jenn Figg and Matt McCormack, Daviea Davis, Nikolaj Christensen and Jason Forck are among the artists taking part in the display.
Designed by Phipps exhibit coordinator Jordyn Melino, the Summer Flower Show will run through Oct. 6. It will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and until 10 p.m. Fridays. A meet-and-greet with the artists will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday. Admission is $15 for adults, $14 for seniors and students, and $11 for children (2-18). Members and children under 2 enter free. Information: www.phipps.conservatory.org.
