Maxo Vanka painted 22 murals on the interior walls of St. Nicholas Coation Catholic Church in Millvale. The emotionally charged images cover nearly 11,000 square feet of space and tell the story of the Croatian people as they struggle with war and poverty at home, and forge new lives as immigrants in industrial America. Vanka painted the murals in two sessions, in 1937 and 1941.
