June 28 is the grand reopening of the 22-room hotel in Shadyside that was purchased by the Priory Hospitality Group last year.
We're delighted to share the news that the Post-Gazette has won three national awards in this year's Association of Food Journalists Awards Competition.
At an awards banquet this past Thursday night during last week's AFJ conference in Park City, Utah, the PG won:
• Second place for Best Newspaper Food Coverage in our circulation division of under 200,000. Other finalists are the San Antonio Express-News (first place) and The Advocate of Baton Rouge, La. (third place).
• A first-place tie (among all publications) for Best Newspaper Special Food Project for This is Pittsburgh Food by Gretchen McKay and Steve Mellon. Sharing that award is The Kansas City Star for "Edge City"; other finalists are Steve Hoffman, Minneapolis Star Tribune for "Letters from France" and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel for "On Our Plate" (tied for second place) and Minneapolis Star Tribune for "Taste 50" (third place).
• First place (among all publications) for Best Food Multimedia Presentation for Gretchen McKay's and Steve Mellon's video that accompanied the This is Pittsburgh Food installment "Making sausage: Local Italians gather to preserve meat as well as traditions from the Old Country." Other finalists were Feast magazine, Hannah Radcliff (second place) and Indy Week, D.L. Anderson and Victoria Bouloubasis (third place).
