The farm stands of the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank open June 10 and run through Nov. 12. The Farm Stand Project provides affordable produce to low-income neighborhoods that have limited access to grocery stores.
Farm stand specialist Vicki Lish says they're aiming to add more local produce this year.
They added one stand -- Charles Street on the North Side, sponsored by the Pittsburgh Project -- and closed two: Lincoln-Larimer and East Hills.
All stands, which are sponsored by community groups and run by local residents, accept cash, WIC, senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program vouchers and food stamps. Most will have a grand opening the week of July 6.
