Local spots ring in Chinese New Year

The Chinese New Year is seven days away. Here is a sampling of restaurants with special offerings honoring the beginning of the Year of the Monkey.

Jimmy Tsang's, Shadyside, will have its 25th annual Chinese New Year's feast with eight appetizers, whole fish and duck, dumplings and new dishes "never made before." The dinner is offered next Thursday through Feb. 28 for $26. Call 412-661-4226.

Mandarin Gourmet will prepare the food for an extensive 12-course banquet Jan. 24 at the Syria Mosque in Cheswick sponsored by the Organization of Chinese Americans, Pittsburgh chapter. Cost is $50 for nonmembers of the Organization of Chinese Americans. Call 412-531-5921.

All four Sesame Inn restaurants (Mt. Lebanon, Station Square, McMurray and Ross) will offer a special 10-course feast for $30 per person, minimum of four people, from next Thursday through Feb. 1. Call the Mt. Lebanon location at 412-341-2555.

Coral Garden, Edgewood Towne Centre, will have a traditional 10- to 12-course banquet next Thursday through Feb. 5. Cost is $25 per person. Call 412-731-1101.

Silk Road Gourmet Chinese Restaurant, Mt. Lebanon, offers a special six-course dinner every year. This year's dates are tomorrow through Jan. 26. Cost is $21.95 per person, minimum of two diners. Call 412-279-8088.

Chinatown Inn, Downtown, will have several special dishes next Thursday through Jan. 31, including Five Fragrance Duck. Prices vary. Call 412-261-1292.

Panda Palace, Pleasant Hills, will have a special buffet next Thursday for $10.95. Call 412-885-8880.

Oriental Super Buffet, North Hills Village, Ross, has an all-you-can-eat buffet for lunch ($7.95, no prime rib or crab legs) and dinner ($11.95). Call 412-366-4288.

Dynasty International Buffet, Cranberry, will have three or four special New Year dishes, in addition to the regular menu. 724-772-8883.
