The perfect appetizer for warding off vampires. It comes together in 5 minutes, but needs a long sit in the fridge in order to mellow. Fresh herbs are best, but if you can't find one, go ahead and substitute 1/2 teaspoon dried.
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
8 tablespoons (1 stick) butter, softened
2 cloves garlic, fresh as possible, crushed (we picked the plumpest we could find)
1 teaspoon chopped fresh oregano leaves
1 teaspoon chopped fresh majoram leaves
1 teaspoon chopped fresh basil leaves
Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl and beat with an electric mixer until blended into a spreadable consistency. Cover and refrigerate overnight or up to several days for the flavors to blend and mellow.
When ready to serve, bring the spread to room temperature. Mound on a platter and serve with crackers or toasted baguette slices. Makes 1 1/2 cups.
