About the South Side house tour

Thursday, April 27, 2000

Work up an appetite, chow down on Grandma's food, then walk off the calories.

This year is the 10th Historic House Tour. Held annually on the last Saturday in April, the tour has showcased more than 100 historic properties since it began. Here's a look at some of the features of The Historic Turn of the Century South Side House Tour:

A self-guided tour of 10 private homes from the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Three different routes, to make it easy to navigate from home to home.

All four Prince of Peace Catholic parish churches will be open for visitation.

A South Side Step Trek is planned for Sunday.

The house tour is sponsored by Columbia Gas and PNC Bank and supported by UPMC and The Soffer Organization.

Before you go, here are some things to consider.

When they say walking, they mean walking. Tour-goers should be able to walk several blocks at a time and navigate several flights of stairs. But leave the youngsters at home because children under 12 are not permitted.

There will be free parking at Josephine and 21st streets on a first come-first served basis.
